The West Noble Chargers put together a balanced offensive performance and a strong second-half defensive effort Friday night, defeating the Fremont Eagles 30-14. West Noble built a 17-point advantage early, weathered a Fremont rally late in the second quarter, and then shut out the Eagles after halftime. The Chargers finished with 412 yards of total offense, including 207 rushing and 205 passing, while averaging 7.9 yards per play. The Chargers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Quarterback Jackson Christlieb connected with Xy’mire Barnes-Bridges for a 38-yard touchdown with 10:32 remaining in the first quarter. Marco Macias added the extra point for a 7-0 West Noble lead. Macias extended the advantage early in the second quarter with a 26-yard field goal, and Christlieb struck again through the air when he found Brayden Limerick for a 50-yard touchdown, putting West Noble ahead 17-0. Fremont responded with two quick rushing touchdowns. Jaret Laughlin broke loose for a 76-yard score before Kolton Armstrong added a 10-yard touchdown run, cutting West Noble's lead to 17-14 with 1:31 remaining in the half. The Chargers answered at an important time. Christlieb capped the ensuing possession with a 3-yard touchdown run with just 37 seconds remaining, sending West Noble into halftime with a 23-14 advantage. After a scoreless third quarter, Barnes-Bridges put the game away with a 31-yard touchdown run with 3:17 remaining. Macias' extra point produced the final 30-14 margin. Christlieb had a big night directing the West Noble offense. He completed 11 of 17 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns without an interception while also rushing 12 times for 90 yards and a touchdown. Barnes-Bridges was a major factor both running and receiving, carrying 13 times for 81 yards and a touchdown while catching five passes for 81 yards and another score. Brogan Parks contributed 28 rushing yards and was especially productive as a receiver, catching two passes for 74 yards, including a 53-yard reception. Limerick's lone reception went for the 50-yard touchdown. West Noble averaged 5.9 yards per rushing attempt and an impressive 18.6 yards per completion. Fremont found success on the ground, rushing for 274 yards, led by Laughlin's 192 yards on 21 carries. However, West Noble's defense made the Eagles much more one-dimensional through the air. Fremont completed only 6 of 17 passes for 74 yards and did not score in the second half. Special teams also played an important role for the Chargers. Macias made his 26-yard field goal and recorded five touchbacks on six kickoffs, helping West Noble control field position. The Chargers were so efficient offensively that they did not punt once in the game. Perhaps the biggest difference was West Noble's ability to generate explosive plays. The Chargers produced touchdowns of 38, 50 and 31 yards, finished with 412 total yards on just 52 offensive plays, and scored 30 points despite possessing the football for only 18:42. After Fremont pulled within three points late in the first half, West Noble responded with 13 unanswered points and held the Eagles scoreless over the final two quarters to secure the 30-14 victory. Great job, Chargers!
